Prepositions and Conjunctions is an interactive game that teaches children aged 6–9 how small linking words such as before, under, while and because tell us when, where and why. It follows the Year 3 English curriculum for expressing time, place and cause.
Players follow Pip the robin through her day. They make it rain during her swim, hide Mo the kitten under, on, behind or between things, boil a kettle in Pip's kitchen and let the sun melt an ice cream. Each action builds a sentence, and the child drags or taps the missing word into the gap.
Prepositions, shown as teal tags, link a word to a thing, as in during the film. Conjunctions, shown as pink pills, join two ideas, as in because it was raining. A 10-question challenge with stars checks what has stuck.
A preposition is a small word that shows how one thing links to another, often telling us where or when. For example, the cat is under the table, or we ate popcorn during the film.
A conjunction is a joining word that links two ideas into one sentence. Words like when, while, because and so are conjunctions, as in 'We stayed inside because it was raining.'
Because is followed by a whole idea with a verb, as in 'because it was raining'. Because of is followed by a thing, as in 'because of the rain'. Both explain why something happened.
It is made for children aged 6 to 9 and matches the Year 3 English curriculum in England on time, place and cause words. Older children who want extra practice can play it too.
The game has four short scenes on time words, place words, joining words and why words, then a 10-question challenge with stars. Playing everything takes about 15 minutes, and a friendly narrator reads each line aloud.
