This page explains, in plain English, what TapLearn stores about your family, why, and how to remove it. The short version: we keep as little as we can, we never sell or share it, and children never give us their personal details.
Our promises
- No adverts, ever, and no advertising trackers.
- We never sell or share your data with anyone for marketing.
- Children never give us personal details. We don't ask children for an email address, surname, school, photo or location.
- No chat and no contact with strangers. Children can't message anyone, and nobody can message them.
- You're in control. You can see, change or delete what we hold at any time.
Playing without an account
Children can play our free games, and the first chapter of every members-only game, without an account. We don't know who they are. Their device remembers the games they've played (so they appear in My games) and, if you pick one, their school year, so we can suggest the right games.
If you make a family account
A family account is made by a parent or carer, not a child. We store:
- Your email address and password. Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed), so even we can't read them.
- For each child: a first name or nickname (you choose), a picture buddy, and their school year, so we can suggest games for it.
- Progress: which chapters each child started or finished, quiz scores, and whether each answer to a skill question was right or wrong. This builds the skills report, which only your family account can see.
- Emails we send you: a record of each email (such as a password reset or the weekly progress email), so we can check it was sent.
Memberships and payments
Payments are handled by Stripe on its own secure pages. We never see or store your card details. We keep your membership status, plan, renewal date and Stripe's customer reference. Stripe's own privacy policy explains how it handles payments.
Cookies and your device
- A sign-in cookie that keeps a family account signed in on this device, for up to a year, if you choose to stay signed in.
- A cookie that remembers the school year you picked, so we can suggest games for it.
- The games your child has saved and played, kept on the device so they appear in My games.
If you say yes to it, we also use our own visit cookie, and one that remembers your choice (see How we measure our website, below). We don't use advertising cookies.
How we measure our website
To see how families find and use TapLearn, and to make it better, we keep our own records of visits. They stay on our own server: we don't use Google Analytics or any other outside tracker, nothing is used for adverts, and nothing is shared or sold.
- If you say yes to our visit cookie, your browser gets a random visitor number (nothing about you is in it). We then record the pages visited and when, how the visit arrived (for example typed in, a search engine, an AI assistant, social media, another website, an email, or a campaign tag on the link), the type of device and browser, the main buttons pressed, games opened and chapters finished, and what is typed into our search. If our hosting tells us, we also note the country. We never store your internet (IP) address.
- Until you choose, we count page visits and presses of the main buttons, with no cookie and nothing that identifies you or your device. If you say no, we only count page visits in that way. Children using simple screens are never asked.
- If you have a family account, these visit records are linked to your account, so we can see how your family uses TapLearn each day and which steps led to joining or becoming a member. We use this only to improve TapLearn and to help you if you contact us.
- Steps in your account (creating it, choosing a plan, opening the payment page, starting or ending a membership, adding a child) are kept as part of your account's records.
- We keep visit records for 13 months, then delete them. Deleting your family account deletes everything linked to it straight away.
- You can change your choice at any time with Cookie choices at the bottom of every page. We also respect the Global Privacy Control setting in your browser.
Keeping things safe and working
- We count how many times each game is played each day. The count is anonymous and isn't linked to any person or device.
- To stop people guessing passwords, we briefly record the internet address used for sign-in attempts.
- If something goes wrong on a page, we note the page and the problem (not who was using it) so we can fix it.
- Games run in a protected space, separate from the rest of the site and from your account.
Seeing, changing or deleting your data
From the Family account page you can edit or remove players, turn off our emails, or delete your whole family account and all its progress at any time. Deleting is permanent and happens straight away, and it also ends any membership so no more payments are taken. If you'd like a copy of what we hold about your family, or have any question about privacy, please email us at [email protected].
Children's privacy
We've designed TapLearn with the UK Children's Code (the Age Appropriate Design Code) in mind: privacy is high by default, we don't use children's data for advertising or to keep them playing, and we only collect what the site needs to work.
